Frost-Off Competition (New!)
Want-To-Be’s Can Take Center Stage At The Bite of Oregon by Entering the New “Frost-Off” Competition
The 2011 Bite of Oregon, August 12-14 in Waterfront Park, offers not one but two opportunities for amateur chefs to take center stage at Oregon’s premier culinary event. The new baker’s “Frost-Off” and “Hot Shot Cook-off” allow those who don’t cook outside the home to star on The Bite’s Sysco’s Oregon Chef’s Stage. Who knows, it could be the big first step to a career as a professional or television chef.
What is the Frost-Off?
During the Bite of Oregon, four pre-selected contestants draw numbers to receive a combination of random cake shape and frosting. Contestants bring all their own decorating tools and have 10 minutes to compete for the best decorated cake. An emcee is narrating the action while the crowd watches the contestants every move. The competition is Saturday, August 13 from 2:35 pm – 3:05 pm. Gerry Frank, renown food writer and owner of the celebrated Konditorei bakery in Salem will be the only judge. Samples of cake will distributed through the audience afterwards.
How to enter the Frost-Off
Hopeful winners need to email contests@soor.org by Wednesday, August 3, 2011 and in 25 words tell The Bite planners why you deserve one of the coveted slots. Special Olympics Oregon (producers of The Bite) will announce the four contestants by Friday, August 5th, 2011.
What is the Frost-Off winning prize?
Not only will the winner be celebrated as the first ever Frost-Off King or Queen but the winner also receives prize package containing valuable baking equipment and supplies.
